Hydrophytic Vegetation

A plant community will develop on a site with the constraints of water, soil and climate. A hydrophytic plant community will grow in areas where water is adequate for a group of species.

Some plants were created to grow in a wide range of water conditions. These types of plants have been classified as facultative. Other plants occur in conditions where water is present nearly all of the time. These are classified as obligate plants. Plants that seldom occur in wetlands are classified as upland plants. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has prepared a list of plants and classified them to their affinity to water.

We have listed the links below to help you find more information about wetland plants.
